Our Story

Nau mai, haere mai—come and be part of our story.

Since 1991, Te Puna Waiora – Desert Spring Ministries Trust has been dedicated to fostering connection, growth, and well-being in Hamilton and the wider Waikato region. What began as a small initiative has evolved into a thriving hub where whānau come together to learn, support one another, and build a brighter future.

Our mission is to empower individuals of all ages, ethnicity, and families by providing educational programmes, resources, and support services that promote confidence, resilience, and self-sufficiency. We believe that strong communities are built through shared knowledge and opportunities, which is why we offer a diverse range of programmes—from financial mentoring and parenting courses to Te Reo Māori classes and learner driver licence workshops.

At Te Puna Waiora, we embrace the values of whanaungatanga (relationships), manaakitanga (care and respect), and kotahitanga (unity). We are more than just a community centre—we are a place of belonging, where people from all walks of life are welcomed, supported, and inspired to make positive life choices.

Over the years, we have been privileged to walk alongside countless individuals and whānau on their journey toward personal and collective well-being. With the ongoing support of our community, we continue to grow, adapt, and expand our reach, ensuring that every person who steps through our doors has access to the tools and encouragement they need to thrive.

He aha te mea nui o tea ao, He tangata he tangata he tangata [What is important in the world, it is people, people, people]

Our Guiding Values

He manaakitanga [Showing kindness, respect and care]

We build relationships and reflect the character of Jesus in the community through love, care and service.

He tū tangata [Enabling each other to stand tall]

We encourage, assist and challenge whānau and individuals to grow in understanding who they are, how we relate to one another and to discover, develop, use and manage our skills, knowledge and resources.

He ngākau hou [A new heart]

Whānau and individuals experience positive transformation and can thrive. We extend love and care to others and use what we have learned and gained to empower and equip others. This helps create a resilient, healthy and whole community and environment.
